Can having a baby cause hair loss?
I think its safe to say all new mothers experience some sort of hair loss after pregnancy, some worse than others. But, not to panic, your hair is more than likely to be back to it’s normal self sooner than you think.
So here’s how it goes,
Normally we loose 50 to 100 strands of hair per day but after pregnancy this seems to go up to 500, yes this can be disturbing but, it’s completely normal.
During pregnancy, increased levels of estrogen prolong the growing stage, so you may loose less hair on a daily basis. However, after pregnancy your estrogen levels change and a lot more hair follicles enter the resting stage. Soon you'll have additional hair falling out in the shower or when you brush your hair. However this phase shall not last long and your hair should be back to its pre-pregnancy thickness 6-12 months after giving birth.
Now we’re not saying all women experience dramatic hair loss after pregnancy but if you do remember this is totally natural. You’re welcome.
